Happy February! I am not quite sure what happened to January, but I am pretty certain it has a lot to do with school holidays, kids getting sick, and then 2 inches of snow that can shut down a city for days. I’ve been working on some really fun projects while cooped up for the last several weeks, like the one I am sharing today, and look forward to sharing more soon!! Today I want to talk to you about Silhouette Studio Design Edition and bring you an AMAZING deal!!
You may or may not know, but I am pretty into my Silhouette Cameo. I bought a Silhouette SD within the first couple months it was introduced and immediately upgraded to the Cameo once that was available. I’ve never owned another die cut machine of any type. The reason being – I want to control the designs and fonts that I can cut. I have well over 500 fonts and many gigabytes worth of graphics stored on my computers. Once I got into cutting out my own everything – paper, vinyl decals, iron-on heat transfer decals, rhinestone templates for blingy shirts – I started looking for new designs to cut out and I was introduced to svg files. Only problem was I had to convert them to be able to cut them out in Silhouette Studio, which means adding another step, which means I’m not so likely to do it. Yup, I’m that lazy… Flash forward about a year after I discovered svg files and Silhouette came out with Silhouette Studio Design Edition – allowing you to cut those file directly from Silhouette Studio, no extra steps needed!!
So without doing anything more than purchasing this Snow Queen SVG file (it is not my own file, I did purchase it from a 3rd party) and importing it into my library I was ready to cut out my vinyl.
Now don’t get me wrong, cutting out this 15 piece layered decal isn’t a beginners project, but working with SVG files will definitely open up the possibilities and take your cutting skills to the next level. We’ll cover, in detail, making layered designs in a future post. But with the Design Edition you’ll be able to cut anything you want! Just do a quick internet search for svg files and you’ll find tons of free files along with plenty of pay sites that are comparable in price to the Silhouette Design Store.
So now that you know how much you need the Design Edition, let me let you in on the awesome details. From now until February 14th you can get the DE for 40% off!! after the last Silhouette update, I haven’t been able to use some of my fonts – specifically the Lavanderia Sturdy. Have you heard of anyone else having problems? Thank you in advance!
