Supplies:
– Silhouette (or any other vinyl cutting machine)
– Vinyl (outdoor gloss vinyl if your dish will get wet)
– Contact or Transfer paper
– Small ceramic dish – I used “Tasting Bowls” from Libbey (found on Amazon) but any small dish will do
– Ruler
Measure the inside bottom of your tasting dish. Mine was just shy of 2 inches in each direction. Using your design software, Silhouette Studio in my case, and design your monogram* and size it smaller than the dimensions of your dish. Cut out your monogram on any color or patterned vinyl and use your contact paper or transfer tape to press your design on to the dish. That’s all there is to it!
*The Silhouette Store has the script monogram letters but you will have to buy each letter individually. You can also buy the script font Vines from Front Bros as well as the Circle Monogram font. For a free alternative to Vines you can try KK Monogram that is available for free on DaFont.com.
I just really love all things gold when it comes to decorating and accessorizing right now so I had to make one using this shiny gold vinyl.
It’s just so elegant.
But then again I love all things polka dot and black is so timeless that I just had to make one using this great patterned vinyl, too!

I love this idea.

I love this idea! I am just getting started with my Silhouette and the learning has been overwhelming. Where did you get the polka dot vinyl.

I have a Cameo and I fully understand making it and cutting it but what do you mean by “use the transfer paper” to put it on there? I’m confused.

My virus software blocked the KK Monogram from downloading saying there was a threat. May be a false alert, but wanted to make others aware. Fun idea and a great first project using vinyl – I’m going to try it !

What is the font that the black and white polka dot vinyl dish is made from? KK seems to be a script , so do not think it is this. Thanks
Stacy says
Hi Jane,
It’s the circle font from Front Bros, KK would def be very scripty but you could thicken KK by using the offset feature.

I’m having trouble getting the vine font to cut correctly this small, any tips for what my cutting blade should be set on?
Love these and plan to make them for my daughters bridesmaids
Stacy says
Maybe slow it down a little? If not you can offset the monogram like 0.05 inches (give or take you’ll have to play with it) to thicken it up a bit. Hope that helps.

How much would this cost for a beginner? I have none of the supplies! Not familiar with working with vinyl at all
Stacy says
Hi Olivia,
I craft cutting machine starts at about $130 and sheets of vinyl can be had from around $2 a sheet. Hope that helps.

I just bought a bowl like this at Wal-Mart.

I purchased mini tasting bowls from Cost Plus World Market. Using a coupon from retailmenot.com, I ordered them online and picked up in store with no shipping fee. A set of 8 cost only $4.49, after discount! They are very tiny, but for the price, who can complain?
Sue says
Since there is no way I could afford the machine you use, is there any chance you would take an order for two of them.
Brenda Ousley says
Can you tell me how to clean glass after applying the monogram?
Stacy says
As long as you’ve used “outdoor” vinyl you can clean as normal.
Annie says
Hi! I’m new to this & would like to try the necklace you made with the monogram. What was the name of the gold vinyl that was used? It it metallic? Thank you!
Stacy says
I am not sure of the name. It is Oracal 651 from craftvinly.com
